چکیده

J-FOR Journal of Science & Technology for Forest Products and Processes: VOL.1, NO.3, 2011 48 In recent years, the forest biorefinery has been identified and proposed as an opportunity for pulp and paper mills to improve their profitability. The implementation of biorefinery units will have an impact on the energy requirements of the receptor mill, and the energy consumption of the biorefinery should therefore be optimized before integration. The purpose of this work is to propose a biorefinery for the production of furfural that can be integrated into a Kraft pulp mill. The operating conditions and the energy requirements of the biorefinery have been determined. Analysis has shown that its energy consumption, although high, can be reduced. A mixed-integer non-linear programming (MINLP) algorithm was used to minimize the energy requirements, and a new heat-exchanger network was developed that reduced the steam requirement by 65% and the cooling water requirement by 82%. Biorefinery process for production of paper and oligomers from Leucaena leucocephala K360 with or without prior autohydrolysis.

Lignocellulosic material from Leucaena leucocephala was subjected to a two-stage fractionation process to obtain a valorized effluent containing hemicellulose derivatives and a solid phase for producing cellulose pulp by conventional soda-anthraquinone delignification. This solid phase allows the production of cellulose pulp, under less rigorous conditions from NaOH-AQ process (177 °C, 21%, 120...

Study of Separation and Fouling of Reverse Osmosis Membranes during Model Hydrolysate Solution Filtration

Prehydrolysate, a dilute solution consisting mainly of pentoses, hexoses, and lesser quantities of organic acids, furfural and phenolics, is generated in the Kraft dissolving pulp process. An obstacle facing the valorization of the solution in hemicellulose biorefineries, by conversion of the sugars into bioproducts such as furfural, is the low sugar concentration. Membrane filtration is typica...

New analysis method of furfural obtained from wood applying an autohydrolysis pretreatment

Two gas chromatography extraction methods based on liquid-liquid (LLE) and headspace solid phase microextraction (HS-SPME) were evaluated for analysis of furfural from hemicellulose hydrolysates. Woody biomass was used as renewable resource for furfural production. In this study, autohydrolysis pretreatment was investigated for conversion of xylose and arabinose into furfural at selected ranges...

Bioethanol, biohydrogen and biogas production from wheat straw in a biorefinery concept.

The production of bioethanol, biohydrogen and biogas from wheat straw was investigated within a biorefinery framework. Initially, wheat straw was hydrothermally liberated to a cellulose rich fiber fraction and a hemicellulose rich liquid fraction (hydrolysate). Enzymatic hydrolysis and subsequent fermentation of cellulose yielded 0.41 g-ethanol/g-glucose, while dark fermentation of hydrolysate ...
